Sometimes it can be very helpful after you  have been turned down for a position to give the hiring official for the position a call asking what you could have done better during the interview or what skills you might need to improve on.    Although it might not be an easy thing to get your self to do the dividends that it can provide maybe great to you.   When calling a hiring official have specific questions that you would like to ask about how you can improve your skills levels.   Sometimes the hiring official will give suggestions as to how you can improve, but also my provide insight into the person that was hired for the position.   On a couple of job searches I learned that I finished runner-up, which didn’t seem like a great consultation because I still didn’t have a job, but it did give me confidence that I was interviewing well and doing the right things.   Sometimes it might also be disclosed that there was an internal candidate for the position.  Go ahead and make that follow up call after the hiring decision has been made.   The rewards can be great.
