Let’s say you have been let go from your last job because of a restructuring or a firing. Maybe you left because of discontent. Your most important action item is managing your own attitude toward the situation. In a highly emotional state, it is too easy for you to curse the darkness: “I had a bad boss.” “The place was rife with organizational politics.” There may be some truth to those points, but you also need to ask yourself, “What do I need to accept about the experience to avoid making the same mistakes so that I can succeed in the future?” Once you have gained two or three lessons from the experience, move forward and don’t wallow in self-doubt or what might have been.
